Josh turned 11 on May 7th. So, we celebrated with a pool party at the house. He had such a great time with his friends. I even made his cake this year! It was a basketball jersey with Josh favorite number "12".

Master Bath Remodel

Well, our masterbath had a complete remodel. The only thing left is to install the baseboard. Now on to the kids bathroom. We are slowly getting things done!

Josh' Basketball Season

Josh just recently finished his 5th year of playing basketball. Tim was able to coach again this for the team. The boys are growing leaps and bounds and look forward to another good season next year. Josh is now 5 ft tall. He will surpase Erika and I pretty soon!

A Little Update

Just a quick update on what we've been up to.

Erika is finishing up her sophmore year of high school. I can't believe she is 16. I now listen to those folks who say, "time sure does fly by and before you know it, your kids will be grown up." This is so true!

It looks like Erika's summer will be very busy. She may have a part time job and plans to go back to Bolivia on a mission trip.

I love hanging out with Erika as a mom and as a friend. We stay up and talk and love to laugh!

Josh will turn 11 in 4 weeks. My little buddy is growing up too. I imagine he will surpass his sister and mom in height by next year! Josh is completing 4th grade this year. He still makes the family laugh though I don't have any funny stories to tell you at the moment. But, I'm sure I will soon.

We have a couple trips planned over the summer. My parents 50th wedding anniversary is in June, so we will head to NY to celebrate NY style with a huge party for them. A week later, we will head to the NC mountains with two other families for a much needed rest and relaxation time. Then, Tim and Erika will be off to Bolivia while Josh and I hold down the fort here.

Look Who Turned 16!

Just a little late posting, but look who turned 16 a couple weeks ago? It's hard to believe that Erika is 16 now! Boy, how time flies by. I'm amazed at how much Erika has changed over the course of a couple years. She is such a delight. Her desire to change and be more like Christ is evident.

Anyhow, I had so much fun planning this birthday for her! Her friends arrived all dressed up and ready to go to Cranes Roost for a little photo shoot. Little did they know but shortly after they arrived at the house, a limo pulls up ready to take them to Cranes Roost! I think they were all shocked especially Erika. This huge 14 passenger Escalade limo pulls up and we all pile in for a little ride. Do you know there were 6 flat screen tv monitors in that limo? Amazing...

After the photo shoot everyone heading back to the house for "A Wicked Party" featuring Erika Griffih. She sang a song from Wicked to start the evening off and next was a gourmet dinner compliments of the chef. Well, I'm not a gourmet chef but it sounded good.
Then, after dinner the girls played American Idol on the Wii. Cake and ice cream next and then a little dancing ended our evening.

Matt & Jess' Wedding

We had the privilege of being involved in Matt & Jess' wedding several days ago. Tim, Erika, and Josh were all in the wedding. Matt's twin brother was in the wedding. Can you tell who he is? They not only look alike but they sure do act alike! It was so much fun and just loved seeing two wonderful people unite as husband and wife.

I nearly forgot I have a blog! Well, it has been crazy around here and not sure when it is going to calm down! It is all good stuff though. Homeschooling takes up a good portion of the day. Then you have kids extra activities, homegroup, spending family time, hospitality and fellowship. At some point pictures will be added but really don't know when. Perhaps I will post some pictures after Matt & Jess' wedding as Tim, Erika and Josh will be in it.

Here is how everyone is doing.

Erika sprained her ankle a couple weeks ago and has been unable to play basketball. I didn't realize that sprains can take a long time to heal. She is back working hard in her schooling and will go on a mission trip this summer.

Josh just started his basketball season. He only plays 7 games which is manageable. He continues to be the comical one in the family and keeps us on our toes. No recent injuries or unusual things he has done recently. I do feel something will transpire soon! It has been way too long.

Tim will begin playing basketball in a couple week with Metro's church league. He shaved his 80's mustache off. He has only done that twice since we've been married. And, we've been married 21 years! Everyone is telling him he looks 10 years younger and man is he loving that! I'm now use to him without a mustache and really like it.

I am trying to stay fit by keeping busy. No basketball season for me with a dislocated shoulder. Oh, that is much better and physical therapy has helped a lot. I won't be having surgery after all!

Erika's Girls

As you may know, we love children around here, especially Erika! Lauren is just as cute as she can be and Erika loves her. I think Lauren likes her too!
We had Norah over one day and she was so funny. She hopped up in one of ours beds with her blanket and started to snore. We got the biggest kick out of that!

Homegroup Christmas Party!

We had our homegroup Christmas party last week at the Black's house. They excel in servicing and love to show hospitality. Anyhow, when everyone arrived, we gave them an assignment by giving each group a $5.00 bill to spend at the mall. The object was to spend $5.00 and not anymore and to get the best deal! After that, we ate yummy food, did a white elephant gift exchange and spent some time reflecting on some evidences of God's grace in each person. We always enjoy that part the most! We missed Caleb this year as he was working in North Carolina!

HG Kids Christmas Party

A couples weeks ago we had a homegroup kids Christmas party. We all met at Walk Through Bethlehem in Longwood where we toured the town of Bethlehem. This is something that Tim and I have done since Erika was 3 years old. We can now recite everything! Then we went back to our house where we had the garage set up for 17 children (including teens) for a pizza party, crafts, and decorating cookies. We decided awhile back that the teens would help Tim and I so that the parents could spend some time in the house eating and in fellowship without their kiddos. I didn't get any picture of the kids in the garage! It was a lot of fun to do and hope the parents enjoyed their time!

This year, I got a real tree to put in the family room! Tim and I have been married 21 years and never had a real tree. I've been so excited about it! I also have my fake tree in the living room but oh, how I love the real tree that the kids decorated with all their handmade ornaments! Also, every year, I try to add to my Christmas in the City collection. However, instead of adding to it, I had to subtract a little. Yes, I broke a small figurine of a police officer and two kids! Well, maybe next year I will add to my collection!

Kid's Christmas Production

Metro did a kids Christmas production for children Kindergarten through 5th grade this year. Stephanie J did a wonderful job heading this up! Josh sang in the choir and got to be Joseph. He was very excited and took his part very seriously. He couldn't stop talking about it!

Take Your Time Checking Out!

I've always tried really hard to look at the cash register when checking out of a store. There have been so many times items ring up incorrect. Now that I've been doing the grocery game for several months, I'm even more interested to see if items are ringing up correct. Today, I went to CVS to get a few things and sure enough something did not ring up the sale price.

I can't imagine how many times people just walk out of the store unaware that they just overspent because the price didn't ring up correctly. I know I've done it plenty of times only to get home and a few days later to notice the mistake. Then, I have to make a special trip back to the store.

Standing in front of the cash register monitoring every items being scanned can at times be challenging especially when you have kids in the cart, a cell phone going off, and an impatient customer behind you. However, the benefit in the long run is worth the extra effort.

So, if you can avoid bringing the kids, not answering your cell phone, and smiling at the customer behind you, I say take your time checking out! It will save you money!

What A Week!

Well, it was one of those weeks where you just have to say....AHHHHH!

Here is just a snippet:

I started therapy this week on my dislocated shoulder. Getting out the door at 7:30 am posed quite a challenge. Not sure why though! Also, we are still in the midst of remodeling our master bathroom.... we are on the six month plan and should be done next week! The tile guy was here but now gone only to leave behind many mistakes. That's okay, I love taking a shower in the guest bathroom.... not really!
Tuesday, we moved all the bedroom furniture (master bedroom and both kids rooms) into the common areas of the house because Wednesday the carpet man was coming. Well, the carpet man came and just before he cut the carpet he said "take a look to make sure this is the right carpet".... To my surprise, it was not the right carpet. So, on the phone I get and explain that this is not the carpet I ordered. Long story short.... we decided we could live with this carpet (same brand, same quality). Or, I just couldn't live the next five days with a matress in my kitchen! Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised that the carpet looks great and I'm happy. Oh, all the while this is going on, Josh is calling me to come take a look at the wild hog the trappers caught next door. Of course I had to take a look and get a few pictures.
Needless to say, we had homegroup somewhere else. I actually thought if we hurried, we could get our house put back together in time... NOT!
Did I mentioned, science co-op, homeschooling, piano, voice lessons, basketball practice and a basketball game all happened during the week?
Though a crazy week, it was kind of comical. Okay, just a little comical!
This week, painting the outside of the house, finishing up the tile in the bathroom and re-soding some areas in the grass.
It really is hard to complain when I look at all that God has given me. I'm grateful for I live free of persecution...yes, what a week!

Wild Things!

And, I don't mean my children! Sorry, I just couldn't help it. In our subdivision for the past couple weeks, we have seen some wild hogs running around! Pretty funny.. until they destroyed our neighbors yard. The other day, trappers, I guess that is what they call them... caught a mother hog and her two babies. And yesterday, they caught the daddy! Josh was so excited that he had to go out there and see exactly what they were doing. Then, Erika got in on the whole thing. A very exciting school day to say the least!

We Have a New President!

Well, last night marks a very historical milestone in history. Obama, an African American was elected the 44th President of the United States. I can honestly say that I had this huge pit in my stomach last night as the results were confirmed. Not because he is African American, but because of his political and moral views he has. I woke this morning, the pit in my stomach was gone and I began to reflect on how God is sovereign. Yes, I can say that with confidence knowing that God knows all things and this is not a surprise to Him. And then, as Erika and I were talking about the election and the outcome, she said "I'm going to concentrate on how amazing it is to see an African American as President." I love the fact that she is very sensitive and has postured her heart this way. You see one of her good friends is African American, she is currently studying in history/literature for the past 13 weeks on the Civil War, and she would love to open an orphanage someday in Africa. Though I may not agree with Obama's views, I have two choices...to embrace it or reject it. May we find a way to embrace this new season for our country.

The Presidential Election

I've always voted on Election Day. However, this year, Tim decided that we were going to do absentee ballot. This was very strange as I like to bring Erika and Josh to the polls. But, this gave me a better opportunity to talk with them about the election and take a look at the ballot. Josh had lots of questions about Amendment 2 and was quite concerned.
Well, I turned in my vote last week. What about you?
This year, at least there is no fighting over the "I Voted" sticker!

Fall Festival

Our family for the last couple years has gone to this festival in Winter Springs. We had several families join us again this year. They do such a good job and everyone seems to have a good time. Outside they have several bounce houses, food, and music. And, indoors they have games, candy, and contests. Josh got second place in a jello eating contest and Tim got first place in a contest where you had to eat two crackers and then be the first one to whistle Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Then he won 2nd place in the jello eating contest. It was so funny! He has such youth in him!

Wedding Bells are Ringing!

Well, they are not ringing in this house, but they are ringing for Matt Brice and Jessica Milliner! They were engaged a couple weeks ago and a wedding is planned for the end of January.

Josh has always wanted to be in a wedding. He is so funny! He really wants to wear a tuxedo. So, even before Jess was engaged, Josh just blatantly asked her if he could be in her wedding! That's my boy. I think Jess was caught a little off guard. Anyhow, a couple weeks ago, she came over and asked Josh to be a junior groomsmen in her wedding. Josh was in complete shock and he pretended to pass out. It was hysterical. He even asked a couple times if she was serious. He is looking forward to getting fit for the tux. Wait until I tell him he can't keep it!

Both Erika and Tim are in the wedding as well!

Can't wait to hear the wedding bells ring!

Labor Day Party!

MRI Results

Well, I had an MRI (arthrogram) done on Tuesday for my shoulder. I then went to my orthopaedic doctor on Friday for the results. The MRI revealed that I have a torn labrum in my shoulder (shoulder dislocation). Basically, the tissue has pulled away from the ligament. I'm not sure if I prepared myself for that. Anyhow, the doctor has recommended doing some exercises at home to strenghthen the muscles around the tendon and see what happens. The next step would be to do surgery. The surgery itself is 2 hours long and a recovery time of about 6 months, with at least one month in a sling. I'm not ready to do anything like that.

Please pray that the exercises I do at home would make things better!

The Past Six Weeks!

12 Bball conditioning begins for Erika
13 Grocery game gets me excited every week
14 Tim is an amazing husband and father who is very involved in our lives

Repairs Begin!

Tim got home on Friday after being gone for 12 days and since then has been busy getting things in order to start the repairs on our home. The tropical storm hit us pretty hard and we have plenty to do for the next several months. Or should I say Tim has lots to keep him busy. I am not much help construction-wise, but I can get drinks and food for my hard worker! Anyhow, Tim is going to work on the outside of the house first before starting on the inside. Of course, whenever projects like this come up, the wheels start turning in my head. It goes something like this.."Hey, seeing that we have to replace the wood floors in the kitchen, why don't we eliminate the little laundry room and open up the kitchen more." My poor husband... if he hasn't enough to do! But, I have to admit, it would really expand our kitchen a lot if we just knocked down the wall! Oh, my big ideas! I just have to keep reminding myself that I'm a very blessed person and very grateful I have a husband that doesn't mind working hard. So, with that said, let the repairs begin. Anyone want to join us?

Never a Dull Moment in our Home!

Yesterday, I had a little mishap of my own. I fell and dislocated my shoulder/arm. At first, I thought I broke it. But after a couple minutes, I knew it must be a dislocation. So, I decided to move/adjust my shoulder and I heard this loud "pop" and immediately felt relief. I'm pretty sore though. I would imagine it is from the actual fall. The kids took great care of me last night as I was in some pain. They were so great! Tim often wonders why it is that so many unusual things happen when he is gone? Oh, I don't know. What I do know is, there is never a dull moment in our home!

Fire Safety 101 !!

Well, what a Monday it was here at the Griffith household. See, I sent Josh out to the garage to sharpen two pencils before we began school. I know it is pretty weird that our electric pencil sharpener is out in the garage. What can I say! Anyway, after a few moments, I was wondering why it was taking Josh so long to sharpen two pencils. To make a long story short, the boy had emptied the pencil sharpener shavings onto the garage floor, and with a lighter started a little fire! Meanwhile using a frisbee to fan the flame. Fortunately, there was no flame when I got there. You see he took a course last year and was taught how to build a fire. I think he missed the part of "don't try this at home" or "safety first".
Needless to say, all is good now and with some instruction from the loving parents, that is a rap on Fire Safety 101!!

Water Damage!

Well, this tropical storm that has swept through central Florida has really hit us hard. We have water damage in at least four rooms; the kids bedrooms, our bedroom and the kitchenette. It is in the same areas as last time. The last hurricane we had, the same problem happened. Anyhow, with Tim leaving for out of town for 12 days, he is working hard to do what he can before he leaves. What a mess! Needless to say, I'm grateful that my house is not flooded! I hope we can resolve the problem so it won't happen again. I have pictures of the damage and perhaps will post them later.

Tim went over to a friends house last night and helped him secure some of their water issues. Wow, it has happened to more people than I thought.

Let The Games Begin!

You are probably thinking I'm talking about the Olympics. Well, even though they have begun and I've loved watching them, I just started the Grocery Game! And it really has been fun. So much so that my husband has said, you are really into this! Yes I am and I'm sure after a couple months he will be thrilled that I've begun this game. Anyhow, I'm collecting coupons, getting my buy one get one free at Publix and CVS and of course using the coupon that goes along with it! So far, I've lowered my grocery bill by $25.00 per week and look forward to it going down even further as I get better at this game.

Question for anyone. I know you can use coupons at Walmart but can you use competitors flyers there too? For instance, if Publix is offering buy one get one free on cereal, can you bring that ad to Walmart and they will honor that?

Vacation Reflections - Take Two

What a wonderful vacation we had indeed! But, it wouldn't be a vacation without some mishaps along the way, wouldn't it? Well, here is goes....

-I forget the large package of chicken (from Sams Club) at home that was going to feed 14 people for dinner. To Publix I go to replace it.
-Claire has a sore throat and is taking it easy. Erika and Hannah concerned about getting it.
-Emma being supervised by Josh and Claire up in a tower. Yikes!
-Josh gets a bathing suit rash and begins walking like there is something in his pants. He thinks about wearing a speedo next time! Mom says no..hee hee!
-Josh' wounds from a scooter accident burns in the salt water. Tim puts superglue on the wound and he proceeds to play
-Matthew... let's just leave it at that!
-Emma throws up and is sick for a day. Erika and Hannah are now freaking out!
-Jon hits another boat with our rented pontoon boat. His backseat drivers do not help him!
-Someone pooped in the pool. Yuck! It was not one of our kids. Management begins the cleanup.
-Walking on a flat pier with no siderails with 8 children wondering who was going to fall in first.

Now, here are some highlights!

-No one got too burned
-The kids got along so well
-Memories were made
-Biblical fellowship was very evident
-Devotions happened
-Worship time on Sunday

And, we are looking forward to getting together again next year!

The 4th of July

We decided to stay home for the 4th of July because the next day we were going on vacation. Tim bought a few fireworks for Josh and Erika to do at home. We spared just a minor injury with Josh...a little burn from the lighter.

Reflections from Vacation

Well, I am sitting here beachside in our lovely condo just enjoying my family and friends. So far, our vacation is going smoothly. Okay, so we are only two days into our vaca... no broken bones, no sunburns at least not yet!

I am thoroughly enjoying being with my husband and kids as well as two special families who joined us. The atmosphere is so laid back that we've just been having a blast!

The beach over here at Anna Maria Island is breathtaking and the sunset. We have a tower above our condo which we can walk up and watch the sunset. It is just beautiful up there!

Most importantly, I thank God for his provision in my life. He has given me a wonderful husband, kids and good relationships!

Well, I got to run. We are heading to the beach! I don't want to miss out on all the fun!

Vacation Here We Come!

Beach Day!

Friday, we went to the beach with a bunch of people. Erika, the photographer, seemed to capture some pictures of the kiddos having fun in the ocean.
I found that sliders worked well under Josh' bathing suit this time. The last time we were at the beach, the poor boy had a nice rash! Well, I think I've taken care of that!
I can't wait to go back to the beach. It was a blast!

No Shoes, No Service!

So, what do you do when you get to your destination (orthodontist) and your 10 year old leaves his shoes at home?

Well, you send your daughter in without you, sit in the car, windows rolled down (because you don't want to run the car because of gas prices), sweat profusely in the 93 degree heat, and try to have as much fun as possible for the next 45 minutes!

Yes, this kind of stuff happens pretty regularly in this family. And, the funny thing is, I don't have babies or toddlers! We just have Josh! A young boy who keeps us going!

Doing Hard Things

Well, while Erika and Josh were in NY visiting my parents, I spent some time reading, cleaning, organizing, getting curriculum ready for this coming school year, spending time with my hubby and catching up with some friends.

However, the book Do Hard Things by the Harris twins was in my opinion really good. The premise of the book is to do hard things for the glory of God. They use the term "rebelutionaries" which means people against low expectations. And though this book focused on teens, it certainly applies to everyone. I was very challenged and look forward to putting into practice by doing some hard things. In addition, Erika will be reading this book for part of her schooling next year. It's A Bird..Finally!

Well, after about 6 months of having a bird feeder in our backyard, we finally spotted a red cardinal! We were thrilled to say the least. I wonder how the bird seed was seeing that we have not changed it out since we set the feeder out? Gross! Anyhow, Josh was able to catch this shot. In fact, the bird came back the other day! I was so happy for Josh as this was one of his school projects!

Homegroup Pool Party

We had a homegroup pool party at the Black's house on Sunday. What a wonderful day of enjoying each other's company. The kids had fun in the pool (so did the big kids...Chris, Matt, Tim)! We ended the evening by watching Tim, Peter, Matt and Paige on the trampoline doing some acrobatics. Okay so two of them could claim they did some neat tricks. Sorry... no pictures of that!

School is Out!

Well, school just officially ended. Erika completed her first year of high school and will be entering 10th grade! Josh is entering the 4th grade. We will continue to do some school over the summer like reading and math.

Here are some summer goals.

1. To be purposeful with our time
2. Keep active not busy
3. Have fun
4. Enjoy spending time with each other
5. Cultivating friendships

I'm really looking forward to a wonderful summer with my kids! We have a couple camps, family vacation and the kids are going to visit my parents for 8 days! What is everyone doing over the summer?

Ouch!!

Well, for the most part, this year has been relatively safe in terms of bumps, broken bones, wipe outs etc.. Thank you, Lord! Here shown is Erika's leg in which she received a bike tire burn..ouch! It took a long while to heal with yuckiness happening in between! And, Josh received a baseball to the eye... ouch as well! His eye went through some fun and pretty color stages. All and all it has been a safe year thus far! What about you and your family?

Beach Day & Celebrating Josh' Birthday

We celebrated Josh' birthday on Saturday at the beach. He invited the boys from his basketball team and a few others to join us for a beautiful day at the beach. We could have done without the sharks though. Even though I didn't see any, others around us some some! I heard that New Smyrna is infested with sharks! It actually is a little scary. Anyhow, Josh had a great time and it was very relaxing for the parents. Everyone said it was one of the best days they have ever spent at the beach. Who would have know...I really didn't plan a thing. I guess sometimes that's the best way!

Mother's Day

Josh Turns 10!!

It's hard to believe Josh is 10!!! His birthday was May 7th. We celebrated with a small family birthday party last week. And, this Saturday, we will go to the beach with some of his friends from his basketball team. We have surely enjoyed Josh. He really is a blessing to our family and continues to be a means of grace in our family.

Homegroup Fellowship Sunday!

Our homegroup (plus some guest) got together a couple Sundays ago to eat and fellowship. The Siedlecki's hosted it at their house which was just recently built and they have plenty of room to house us all. It was such a lovely day of hanging out, relaxing and enjoying each others company.

Last Saturday was tournament day for Metro's basketball league. Tim's team one their first game in overtime to advance to the championship round. It was an exciting game which ended in victory for Tim's team. However, I don't know the score but I really did watch!! What I do know is that they played well together, Scott was fouled quite a bit, there was not any injuries and tired middle-aged men running up and down the court! Did I get it right? Way to go guys for your outstanding achievement!

Remodeling Project

Well, we've decided to do a little updating in our bathrooms starting with our masterbath. Tim and I went to the Home Depot Expo the other day to get some ideas before we make our decisions on tile, fixtures, and granite countertop. We are currently making our selections and shopping for the best price. If you know of any place that would give us a good deal let me know!

Easter Sunday

Easter was so early this year that we did not have ample time to prepare like we normally do. In addition, the Saturday before we were heading home from the youth retreat. So, this year, we decided to do things very low key. We went to our church for our Sunday Celebration which by the way was awesome! I just love talking to the kids about our Savior. I think Josh is really understanding more and more each day as his childlike faith is growing and maturing. After that, it was off to Boston Market to order food to take home. I know... this is not typical as last year we had about 30 folks over! It was very different for us but I know we need to relax at home. And, so we did!

Youth Retreat

Here are some pictures taken at our youth retreat held at Lakewood Retreat near Brooksville. Tim and I were able to go with Erika and really enjoyed this time with her. We spent a good amount of time preparing for the retreat by reading the book Signs of the Spirit by Sams Storms (which I highly recommend), discussing it and praying leading up to the retreat. We came back from the retreat tired yet refreshed in so many ways. I'm looking forward to see all that God has in stored for our youth as we embrace the truth.

There's A Baby in the House!

Yes, there was a baby in the house! As some of you know, the Griffith family loves babies...yes, even Tim and Josh love babies! Well, a few weeks back, we watched Norah Lytle for a few hours. Erika is holding little Norah. She just finished her vegetables... and no, she did not feed herself as it may look! Anyway, we had a great time with her. Josh had her giggling which was hysterical to watch. I just love a babies giggle. So, I wonder when there will be a baby in the house again?

Parent's In Town

My parents have been here visiting since March 4th. We have enjoyed them immensely! It is going to be difficult for us when they leave (especially Erika and Josh) on Thursday. We've been real busy. Tim took my dad to a Magic game, went on an airboat ride, saw some relatives 2 hours away and went shopping. My parents have blessed me so much since they have been visiting. They have homeschooled Josh several days so I could run errands, get my hair done and go to a couple appointments/meetings! In addition, my mom has done some of the laundry and helped with cleaning! I'm overwhelmed.... but these are my parents who just keep on serving.

A California Court of Appeal recently decided that homeschooling is illegal in California unless a parent is a certified teacher. The case arose in a confidential juvenile court proceeding. The Court could have restricted its decision to the facts before it, but instead, it issued a broad ruling that effectively outlaws home education in California. The family and their California counsel are planning to appeal to the Supreme Court of California, which could result in reversal.
The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) will be formally petitioning the California Supreme Court to depublish the opinion, which would cause it to be of little effect. Please join me by showing that many other people, both in California and across the country, care deeply about homeschool freedom in California by signing the HSLDA petition.

It Wasn't Long Ago!

Erika celebrated her 15th birthday a couple weeks ago. It wasn't long ago that she celebrated her 1st birthday. I do vividly remember her 1st birthday where her grandparents flew in to celebrate with her. Two days earlier, Erika began walking all around and she called 911 for the first time. Yes, back then, the police just showed up your door step! Erika was such an adorable baby. What precious memories I have of her and look forward to many more. Isn't she so cute???

Valentines Day

The decorations that you see were done by Erika and Josh. Erika worked very hard along with her brother trying to get the decorations done by the time I got home yesterday. Tim and I were so surprised!! They went to the extent of putting encouraging words on each heart that the kids thought represented Tim and I. We elected to stay home and enjoy the evening with the kids and have strawberry shortcake. Plus, I wasn't feeling well...lost my voice! In addition, gifts were exchanged. Tim bought Erika flowers and perfume. He also made sure Josh honored his sister with a homemade card. And of course, my husband honored me the same way with a beautiful card, flowers and perfume. I'm so blessed!! I tried to do the same by trying to bless Tim with a card and gifts of love! Tim and I will celebrate tomorrow by going to Rennegers in Mount Dora. They are having a big outdoor antique extravanganza. Then, we will go out to eat. I just love my husband and kids.

Erika's 15th Birthday!

Unfortunately, Erika's birthday pictures did not come out. I'm going to try and retake them. Yes, that means trying to re-create that special birthday dinner, cake and ice cream. Anyway, Erika turned 15 on Tuesday, Feb 5th. I have so enjoyed all 15 years with her especially all the long talks at 11:00 pm! She continues to grow in mature in Christ and for that, I'm very grateful. Erika is such a blessing to our home and I look forward to making more memories as the years go by.

So, you may be wondering if there is a new driver in the house? Well, not just yet....Can homeschooling students get driver's education some where?

Ice Cream Anyone?

Erika's 15th birthday was this Tuesday (hopefully I can post some pictures soon) and Josh helped with scooping the ice cream. Well, the ice cream was a little hard so, Tim proceeded to tell Josh to warm it up with his hands (meaning the ice cream scoop). Josh did what Tim told him. Basketball Season Ends

Stuck in Traffic

So, today on our way to the neurologist for Josh (he had an EEG), we got stuck in traffic on the 408 toll road. Josh begins to give many explanations of why we might not moving. Here are his reasons, "The blimp went out of control and landed in the road", "The people steering the blimp had to go the bathroom and landed in the road", "A crane ball hit a car ", "Perhaps there is an accident" or "The toll plaza is backed up". Okay, two out of five of his explanations seem viable. Where did the other three come from? That's my boy.... always keeping me laughing!

I won't know the results from his EEG for a couple weeks. Please pray that it has improved from the last time!

Vactioning

Each summer, we take a week and do a family vacation. Last year, we went to New York City and had a great time. Actually, that was one of our favorite trips. Other vacations have been spent in Destin, Sacramento, Niagara Falls, Ormond Beach, Orlando, and other various locations.

Well, it is time to plan this summer's family vacation and I'm just at a lost. The kids want to do a cruise, I want to go to Washington and Tim is game for anything.

I would love to know where your favorite family vacation spots are and why. I know it is ultimately going to come down to what is going to suit our family. But, I would love to hear why you choose certain places, what you have enjoyed over the years etc.....

Wolverine Basketball

Yesterday, January 2nd was my birthday. I'm not telling my age! Anyway, I was so surprised to get flowers from my family in New York. I also received some very beautiful roses from Tim and the kiddos. In addition, we went to Colorado Fondue Company. Erika and Josh never been and they enjoyed it so much...so did I. The manager of the restaurant was ready to take my birthday picture with the extra large moose mounted on the wall. I passed on that this year! They continued to shower me with gift cards and encouraging words. What a wonderful birthday! I'm truly blessed!

Well, I just noticed, I did not take too many pictures from Christmas morning. Anyway, every Christmas morning, the kids send Happy Birthday balloons (helium) up to Jesus. This is something we've been doing since Erika and Josh were little. Our Christmas this year was very quiet... besides the 5 minute excitement outburst Josh had because he received a special gift. All of this was caught on tape! Christmas Eve we spent it with Aunt Joan & Uncle Bill, went to look at Christmas lights and read the Christmas story while sipping on hot apple cider. I feel very privileged that we have an opportunity to worship our Savior as some countries are being persecuted every day for their faith.

Disney Hotels

Sunday night a group of us went to a couple Disney hotels to spend some time together and enjoy the beautiful Christmas festivities that Disney offers each year. The kids had a great time hanging out with some friends and they loved riding the monorail and the boat. No one got lost...just a couple minor injuries from a fall or two! And, it wasn't the boys this time!

Walk Through Bethlehem

Our family has been attending Walk Through Bethlehem for the past 11 years! Erika was 3 when we first started going. Each year, Longwood Baptist Church puts on this program. As you tour through the city of Bethlehem you will experience perhaps what it may have been like nearly 2000 years ago when Jesus was born. We have enjoyed going over the years. In fact, most years we go 2 nights and invite friends to join with us. And, even though Erika can recite the whole tour, she still enjoys going! Perhaps, I will find a couple pictures to post of first time we took her over 11 years ago.

Wow! 30 pictures later and I think we may have a Christmas photo. By that time, Josh is looking into space, leaning on his sister, looking for a stick or something within reach to play with. I thought that when the kids were older that taking a Christmas picture would be a snap. Well, I was so wrong. How do parents with multiple little ones get good pictures? Do they settle for whatever they can get? I suppose whatever your child is doing in the photo truly captures who they are. Isn't that what photography is all about? Thanksgiving Day

We celebrated Thanksgiving this year with our co-op family. It was so much fun. Some of the kids dressed up and we played some authentic games as the pilgrims and indians did back in 1621. The adults made some traditional food as well as some authentic food such as cornbread, cheese pie and venison. This was a Thanksgiving we will remember forever!

Motorcycle for Sale!!

Well, it is time to sell Josh' motorcycle. It is way too small for him. I'm kind of glad though because it made me a little nervous. That is probably the mom in me. Anyway, I've listed it on craigslist with only one call. I don't think people are buying pricey things these days. And, this is a pretty pricey item for a young child. I will probably advertise it in the motorcycle trader here soon. If you know of anyone who is interested in buying this lovely motorcycle (Yamaha PW 50) send them my way!

It was so much fun having Emma over for the night a couple weeks ago while their parents went to a football game. Erika and Josh really enjoyed playing with Emma. Emma can now say "Erika" and "Josh" and the pronunciation is pretty clear. I think this book is about farm animals and Emma sure knows her animal sounds. Okay, Erika and Josh would love to have a baby around the house. I wonder what Erika and Josh' parents have to say about that?

Brother & Sister

This picture actually freaked me out a little bit. I have never thought that Erika and Josh looked alike. Erika favors Tim's side of the family with the light complexion, freckles and light eye color. And, Josh favors my side of the family with the olive color complexion and green eyes. We haven't been in the sun since school started so Josh' usual surfer tan has diminished quit a bit. So, when Erika took this picture, I was amazed at actually how much they really do look alike! It was scary! What do you think? Do they look like brother and sister?

Rear Ended!

On my way to drop Erika off at the church building on Monday, I was rear-ended. It really caught us all by surprise. Erika was in the front passenger seat and Josh was in the middle seat. Fortunately, no one was in the back seat. I usually have a least a couple extra kids with me but that day I did not. We jolted forward and glass from the rear window came flying. I have a sore and stiff neck but the kids are fine praise God! This is the second time this has happened to me in the last year and a half. Anyway, I'm not complaining just very thankful that it wasn't worse.

Our Personal Retreat!

Erika and I went away for the weekend on a mother-daughter retreat. We feel extremely blessed to have spent this time together. Our first night we went shopping and I bought a couple of dolls that Erika has collected over the years. And, of course clothes shopping! The next day we slept in and then spent some time going over the book Shopping for Time. I'm amazed at how God continues to grow our relationship as mother-daughter. I love the fact that Erika and I can talk about anything! Thanks to my wonderful husband who released me to go so I could spend some alone time with Erika.

If you have never gone on a personal retreat, I would highly recommend going!

Send the Birds!

Well, our bird feeder has been up waiting for birds to come for about 4 weeks now. Josh has been patiently awaiting the arrival of at least one bird! I've read it takes about 6 weeks for birds to go to a new feeder. I hope what I've read is correct. We live in a subdivision and a lot of the trees have been removed. However, around the perimeter of the subdivision is lots of woods which gives me hope that birds will come. So, join me in praying that God would send the birds so Josh can enjoy this little science project/experiment!

Appreciation Luncheon

A couple weeks ago Metro Youth hosted a 55 and up appreciation luncheon in the chapel. This was the second one that Metro Youth hosted and what a success it was. Approximately 42 guest attended, 20 youth and lots of parent participation. The youth were so excited to serve these folks in our church and be able to express their appreciation for their commitment to the local church. And though Erika is out of Metro Youth, it was an opportunity for Erika and I to serve these people who we dearly love. The youth spent time with the guests and served their lunch, drinks and dessert. I was amazed at how the youth were interacting. Jesse Phillips was there and MC the event. He did an outstanding job and appreciate his dedication to the youth of the church. We also put together a couple games: Name that Tune and Name that Celebrity. It was so much fun and the guest did a great job recalling those tunes and celebrities of the 40's, 50's and 60's! There were also a few give-aways. In addition, Erika was able to honor Judy Jones and Zachary honored Jay Schmatjen. They were both so surprised! I'm thrilled Erika and I were able to be a part of this wonderful day. These people have invested so much into Metro Life Church. Their commitment to God and the local church is a direct reflection of their Love for the Savior. They are extremely appreciated! A big thanks to the youth and parents!

Past, Present & Future

It is really hard to believe that 3 months ago, Tim and Erika were heading to Bolivia on a mission trip! Lately, I've been recalling that time when the excitement, joy and faithfulness of God was ever so present. God accomplished so much during that 12 day stay in Bolivia. He worked out every detail according to His plan.

With that said, I'm provoked and encouraged to currently see that God is ever present today. He is actively at work and just as present today as He was 3 months ago. Today, God is accomplishing so much right here in our home. He is currently working out every detail according to His plan.

And more importantly, God will be actively working in the future. God holds the future and will work everything out according to His divine plan. His purpose will be accomplished.

I'm grateful that Tim and Erika was able to go to Bolivia on a mission trip. And, I'm equally grateful that God has called them to a mission right here!

1st TOG Co-Op of the Year
